This session continues our look at Jesus’ statements about worship in John 4. In His discussion with the woman at the well, Jesus reveals an important truth that will help us understand true worship. When the woman wanted to know whether worship took place at the temple in Samara or at the temple in Jerusalem, Jesus said, “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews” (John 4:22). Jesus’ response teaches us that worship is rooted in the knowledge of God—we worship “what we know.” To put it simply, it is the knowledge of God that fuels our affections and deepens our worship. The primary point of the session is that the more we know God and the more accurate our view of God is, the greater will be our worship.
